The GCAGS Faculty Grant Committee received a total of five research proposals from five schools for the 2009 grant program. All five of the proposals were from Gulf Coast states. Broadly, the proposals can be grouped into the following areas of research: sedimentary petrology, ground water contamination, and climate change.
After careful review of all proposals, the two top rated applicants were Amy Weislogel (#1 Ranking) from the University of Alabama and Gregg Davidson (#2 Ranking) from the University of Mississippi. Therefore, the Faculty Grant Committee recommend the following funding:
$10,000—Amy Weislogel, “Geometry of Weld-Flanking Mini-Basin Margin Outcrop-Based on Modeling of the Paleogen Viento Formation, Western Gulf Coast, NE Mexico,”
and
$5,000—Gregg Davidson, “Remobilization of Chemically Persistent Contaminants from Riparian Wetlands: Are Short Term Studies Adequate to Document Contaminant Mitigation?”
