Honorary Membership is to be bestowed upon persons who have distinguished themselves by their service and devotion to the science and profession of geology, to GCAGS, and to industry. This shall be designated as one of GCAGS's most distinguished awards. It shall be customary, but not mandatory, to grant one or more Honorary Memberships each year.
Restrictions
This honor is restricted to members of affiliated GCAGS societies. While not mandatory it is desirable, if at all possible, for the recipient to be present to receive this award.
Guidelines for Consideration of Candidates
Candidates for Honorary Membership should not only have distinguished themselves in service to geology, but also in service to GCAGS. Contributions to the science and profession of geology may be in particular areas or combinations of discovery, thinking, application, exploration, leadership, research, etc. Distinguished service to the industry may have brought favorable reflection on the profession of geology, to GCAGS, and to one's colleagues.
Procedures for Recommendation
Nominations for this award should be submitted, together with good documentation, to the chairman of the Awards and Nominations Committee. Nominations for all GCAGS awards should be accompanied with an approval letter of recommendation from the local geological society executive. The chairman will submit the committee's recommendations for the award to the GCAGS Board of Directors for approval at the annual spring meeting. All nominations not awarded anyone year become a part of a file for future consideration in the next year and need not be resubmitted, but additional information may be submitted in order to update files. Names will be held over for a period of five years.
Description of the Award
This award is a walnut plaque bearing the GCAGS medallion in brass, the recipient's name, the designation "Honorary Membership" and the date awarded. The plaque will be presented by the President of the Association or by the Awards and Nominations Committee Chairman.
